with Families Helping Families of NELA, hosts the Conference on Disability Advocacy,
1-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, at the 橙子视频 Conference Center, 7th floor of the library.

Each year, October is commemorated as National Disability Employment Awareness Month
(NDEAM) and this year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淎merica鈥檚 Workforce: Empowering All.鈥� In the words
of the Office of Disability Employment Policy, 鈥淣DEAM celebrates the contributions
of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a workforce inclusive
of their skills and talents.鈥�
The 橙子视频 College of Business and Social Sciences (Gerontology Program), in collaboration
with Families Helping Families of NELA, is commemorating NDEAM by hosting the Conference
on Disability Advocacy from 1-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the 橙子视频 Conference Center
on the seventh floor of the ULM Library.
The purpose of this conference is to raise awareness on the barriers faced by people
with disabilities and to empower them by focusing on their strengths. It is not about
鈥渄isability鈥� - it is all about 鈥渁bility.鈥澨�
A panel discussion by people with disabilities will be one of the components of this
conference. The second component will consist of ADA training for small businesses
and non-profits to enable them to become ADA compliant and partners in employment.
The third component will focus on employment opportunities for people with disabilities.听听
鈥湷茸邮悠碘�檚 Gerontology program is happy to offer this conference as part of our continued
outreach to have a positive impact on America鈥檚 workforce,鈥澨齭aid Dr. Ron Berry, Dean
of the College of Business and Social Sciences.听听
